Personal Computer Configuration Activity
Purpose:
1. To make you aware of the latest specifications (size of hard drive, RAM size, and processor speed) available in computer hardware
2. To give you practice using search engines on the internet
Description of Activity One:
Assume you have $3000 available for hardware at your disposal. Using the Internet, find a brand new computer on the internet with at least the following specifications. Once you find this computer, enter the type of computer and cost on the spreadsheet located under K:/Sherlock/Intro To Computers/Basic Computer Components. You can search yourself for hardware vendors or use the Internet links below.
Processor: Minimum 700MHz
Hard Disk: Minimum 20 GB
RAM: 128K
Monitor: Minimum 15 inch
CD-RW or DVD
Keyboard
Sound Card
Color Inkjet Printer
Fax/Modem 56K
Minimum Windows '98 Operating System
Determine cost of Maintenance Contract and/or (Warranty)
Description of Activity Two:
Using the same specifications above, locate a refurbish computer and determine the cost and how much you would save. Write this information on the spreadsheet that I will provide for you.
Description of Activity Three:
Determine the most reasonable cost for the following software:
Office 2000
Monthly access to the Internet - Internet Service Provider
